Durch die profane Vervielfältigung mittels des Baustoffs Beton wird dem Bergkristall all seine Reinheit, seine Brillanz genommen und in ein Konsumgut überführt. Doch all der Schroffheit des künstlichen Kristalls zum Trotz behält selbst der Abguss ein Stück der Erhabenheit, der Aura seines natürlichen Vorbilds und kann auf diese Weise vielleicht doch ein, wenn auch ambivalentes, Gefühl von Trost und nostalgischer Erinnerung spenden.

Complementary to the photograph „glimpse_I“, Betty Böhm chose the work "crystallus artificialis" for VTph editions. It is an artificial replica of a mountain crystal, a healing stone naturally occurring in the Alps. Cast in concrete, the mountain crystal can act as a speculative future souvenir of our time, as a metaphor for the "grey energy", being an inexorable sign of modern civilization and convenience while further fueling global climate change.

Through the profane duplication by means of the construction material concrete, the mountain crystal is stripped of all its purity and brilliance and transformed into a consumer good. But for all the asperity of the artificial crystal, even the cast retains a touch of the sublimity, the aura of its natural example, and in this way can perhaps still provide a feeling, albeit ambivalent, of comfort and nostalgic remembrance.
