Tom Parish, Apollo program scientist, and telecommunications billionaire thought so. His only son, Amar Parish, an anthropologist, has a different opinion. Amar believes that the only possible explanation for the existence of certain megalithic stone architecture points toward technologies we can only dream about. Now semi-retired, Tom is tinkering with some old Soviet space program equipment for his museum in Seattle when he makes a startling discovery.

Through a remotely operated camera, he comes across an artifact in a location where no artifact should be. Tom records what he has observed, but pays a dear price for the information. Amar Parish is left to interpret the find. Along with his colleague, Dr. Evan Chatterjee, the two men translate the ancient language engraved on the artifact. The writing describes a celestial movement of our solar system that tells a story of rising and falling civilizations and long forgotten technologies that could liberate humanity.

While working on an unrelated archaeological dig the two colleagues discover clues that a lost city described in the artifact may actually exist. They resolve to find it and bring back superior ancient technology for the benefit of all mankind.
