The Seiko Prospex Automatic Alpinist SPB505J1 is a rugged yet sophisticated men's timepiece, officially nicknamed "Summit Black" for its deep, archive-inspired black dial. This model is a modern re-interpretation of the legendary 1959 Laurel Alpinist, designed for the Japanese "Yama-otoko" (mountain men) and built to withstand treacherous terrain. This watch is powered by the reliable in-house Automatic movement (Caliber 6R55), featuring 24 jewels, manual winding, and an impressive 72-hour (3-day) power reserve. The timepiece measures a versatile 39.5mm in case diameter and is housed within a durable stainless steel case treated with a super-hard coating for increased scratch resistance. The classic Black Dial features cathedral-style hands, Arabic numerals, and wedge-shaped indices, all coated with LumiBrite for superior visibility. The dial is protected by a scratch-resistant Sapphire Crystal with a date magnifier. Practical features include an internal Rotating Compass Bezel operated by a secondary crown, a screw-down crown, and a See-Through Case Back that reveals the movement. It is completed by a robust stainless steel bracelet and offers a professional water resistance rating of 200 meters (20 Bar), making it a perfect companion for both mountain and urban adventures.
