The Last Supper is the final meal that Jesus shared with his Apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion. The Last Supper took place towards the end of the week after Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem and that Jesus and his Apostles shared a meal shortly before Jesus was crucified at the end of that week. During the meal Jesus predicts his betrayal by one of the Apostles present, and foretells that before the next morning, Peter will deny knowing him.
Giovanni Stradano or Jan Van der Straet or van der Straat or Stradanus or Stratensis (1523 – 1605) was a Flanders-born mannerist artist active mainly in 16th century Florence. He started in the shop of his father in Bruges. By 1545, he had joined the Antwerp painter's guild of Saint Luke. He reached Florence in 1550, where he entered in the service of the Medici Dukes and Giorgio Vasari. The Medici court was his main patron. Stradanus collaborated with printmakers the Galle family in Antwerp to produce hundreds of prints on a variety of subjects, most of which were repeatedly reproduced.
Philip (or Philips) Galle (1537 – 1612) was a Dutch publisher, best known for publishing old master prints, which he also produced as designer and engraver. He is especially known for his reproductive engravings of paintings.
